1 About Living In Uganda

Living In Uganda ("we", "our", "us") is Uganda's premier online directory and discovery platform. We provide a comprehensive, curated guide to:

  • Events & Activities: Concerts, festivals, sports, and entertainment
  • Businesses & Services: Restaurants, hotels, shops, and professional services
  • Lifestyle Content: Travel guides, tips, and local insights
  • Emergency Services: Medical, police, fire, and diplomatic contacts
Our mission is to help residents, tourists, and expats discover the best of Uganda and make informed decisions about where to go, what to do, and how to experience our beautiful country.

2 Eligibility to Use Our Platform

By using Living In Uganda , you represent and warrant that:

Age Requirement

You are at least 18 years old or have reached the age of majority in your jurisdiction.

Legal Capacity

You have the legal capacity to enter into binding contracts and agreements.

Compliance

You will comply with all applicable local, national, and international laws and regulations.

No Prior Violations

You have not been previously banned or suspended from using our platform.

3 User Accounts and Registration

To access certain features such as bookmarking content, leaving reviews, or submitting listings, you may need to create an account.

4 Listings, Submissions, and Content

Users may submit various types of content including business listings, event information, reviews, photos, and other materials.

Content License and Rights:

By submitting content to Living In Uganda , you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual, and transferable license to:

  • Use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content on our platform
  • Modify, adapt, and create derivative works from your content
  • Promote your content across our marketing channels and social media
  • Sublicense your content to our partners and affiliates
Your Content Warranties:

You own or have permission to publish the content

Accuracy

The content is truthful, accurate, and not misleading

Lawful Content

The content complies with all applicable laws

Content Moderation:

We reserve the right to:

  • Review, edit, or modify submitted content for clarity and consistency
  • Reject or remove content that violates our guidelines or these Terms
  • Remove content without prior notice if it poses legal or safety concerns
  • Verify the accuracy of business listings and contact information

5 Reviews, Ratings, and User Comments

We encourage honest, constructive reviews that help other users make informed decisions. However, all reviews must comply with our community guidelines.

6 Prohibited Activities and Conduct

To maintain a safe, secure, and trustworthy platform, the following activities are strictly prohibited:

  • Violating any local, national, or international laws
  • Promoting illegal goods, services, or activities
  • Engaging in fraud, scams, or deceptive practices
  • Money laundering or financial crimes
  • Trafficking in illegal substances or contraband

  • Attempting to gain unauthorized access to our systems or databases
  • Hacking, cracking, or circumventing security measures
  • Introducing viruses, malware, or malicious code
  • Conducting denial-of-service attacks or similar disruptions
  • Scraping or harvesting data without permission
  • Reverse engineering or decompiling our software

  • Harassing, threatening, or intimidating other users
  • Posting hate speech or discriminatory content
  • Sharing explicit, violent, or disturbing content
  • Bullying or stalking other users
  • Doxxing or sharing private information without consent
  • Impersonating others or creating fake profiles

  • Posting spam, unsolicited advertising, or promotional content
  • Creating multiple fake accounts or bot accounts
  • Manipulating ratings, reviews, or rankings
  • Engaging in vote manipulation or review fraud
  • Using automated tools to interact with the platform
  • Excessive posting or flooding

  • Posting copyrighted content without permission
  • Using trademarked logos or branding without authorization
  • Plagiarizing content from other sources
  • Distributing pirated software or media
  • Violating patent rights or trade secrets
Consequences of Violations

Violations of these prohibitions may result in immediate account suspension or termination, removal of content, legal action, and reporting to law enforcement authorities where applicable.

7 Intellectual Property Rights

All content on Living In Uganda , including but not limited to:

  • Text, graphics, logos, and images
  • Software, code, and databases
  • Design, layout, and user interface
  • Trademarks, service marks, and branding
  • Compilation and organization of content
  • Proprietary algorithms and features

Your Limited License:

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:

  • Access and use the platform for personal, non-commercial purposes
  • View and download content for your own reference
  • Share links to our content on social media
Restrictions:

10 Limitation of Liability

IMPORTANT LIABILITY LIMITATION

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Living In Uganda AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM.

Indirect Damages

Lost profits, business interruption, or opportunities

Data Loss

Specific Limitations:

We are not liable for damages resulting from:

  • Use or inability to use the platform
  • Errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in content
  • Unauthorized access to your account

  • Service interruptions or downtime
  • Viruses or malicious software
  • Transactions with listed businesses
  • Reliance on platform information

Maximum Liability Cap

If we are found liable for any damages despite these limitations, our total liability shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) UGX 100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Uganda Shillings).

Note: Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

11 Indemnification

Your Agreement to Indemnify Us

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Living In Uganda , its officers, directors, employees, agents, affiliates, and partners from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the platform.

What This Means:

If someone sues us because of something you did on our platform, you agree to:

  1. Take over the defense of the claim
  2. Pay for our legal costs and attorneys' fees
  3. Pay any damages or settlements
  4. Cooperate with us in the defense
  5. Not settle without our written consent
Our Rights

We reserve the right to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter subject to indemnification by you, in which case you agree to cooperate with our defense of such claim.

12 Termination

Your Right to Terminate:

You may terminate your account at any time by:

  • Accessing your account settings and selecting "Delete Account"
  • Contacting our support team at support@livingin.ug
  • Sending a written request to our physical address
Our Right to Terminate:

We may suspend or terminate your account immediately, without prior notice, if:

  • You violate these Terms of Service
  • You engage in prohibited activities
  • You provide false information
  • Your account is inactive for extended periods
  • We suspect fraudulent activity
  • Required by law or legal process
  • To protect our rights or others' safety
  • For any other reason at our discretion
Effect of Termination:

Access Revoked Your right to access and use the platform ends immediately
Content Removal We may delete your content, but some may remain in backups or archives
Data Retention We may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate purposes
Surviving Terms Certain provisions (liability, indemnification, etc.) survive termination
Account Reactivation

If your account is suspended (not terminated), you may request reactivation by contacting us and addressing the issues that led to suspension. We reserve the right to approve or deny reactivation requests at our sole discretion.

13 Dispute Resolution

Informal Resolution:

Before initiating formal proceedings, we encourage you to contact us to resolve disputes informally:

Governing Law:

These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Uganda, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Jurisdiction and Venue:

You agree that any legal action or proceeding arising from these Terms shall be brought exclusively in:

Courts of Uganda

Specifically, the courts located in Kampala, Uganda

Consent to Jurisdiction

You consent to the personal jurisdiction of these courts

Arbitration (Optional):

By mutual agreement, disputes may be resolved through binding arbitration:

  • Arbitration shall be conducted in Kampala, Uganda
  • Arbitration shall be in English language
  • Each party bears their own costs unless otherwise determined
  • Arbitration decision is final and binding
  • Limited grounds for appeal as provided by Ugandan law
Class Action Waiver

You agree that any dispute resolution proceedings will be conducted only on an individual basis and not in a class, consolidated, or representative action. You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.

Time Limitation:

Any claim or cause of action arising from or related to your use of the platform must be filed within one (1) year after the claim or cause of action arose, or it will be permanently barred.

14 Changes to These Terms

Our Right to Modify

We reserve the right to modify, update, or replace these Terms of Service at any time, at our sole discretion. Changes may be made for various reasons including legal compliance, business needs, or service improvements.

15 General Provisions

Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any other legal notices published on the platform, constitute the entire agreement between you and Living In Uganda regarding your use of the platform. They supersede all prior agreements, understandings, and communications, whether written or oral.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, such provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable. If modification is not possible, the provision shall be severed, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force.

Waiver

No waiver of any term of these Terms shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such term or any other term. Our failure to assert any right or provision under these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.

Acknowledgment

By using Living In Uganda , you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service.

These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Living In Uganda .

If you do not agree to these terms, you must immediately cease using our platform and services.
